The fifth event of the City Slickers calendar was the Ale Trail which was held on 8th July 2010.
The event was kindly sponsored by Springfields and featured six teams going round in pairs to three bars in Leicester city centre where they competed against each other in a variety of different games.
Hannah hosted Pictionary at The Slug & Lettuce, Seb hosted a Beetle Drive (what do you mean you’ve never heard of one?) at Fat Cats and Charlotte impersonated Bruce Forsyth for the evening by hosting Play Your Cards Right – so there were lots people having shouted “Beetle!” and “Higher or Lower?” by the end of the night.
The Ale Trail finished at Fats Cats where, after having had more than a few too many drinks by then, some guests were more inebriated than others! But that didn’t stop everyone from sitting down to eat English cuisine at its absolute finest – burger and chips!
The winners of the Ale Trail each received a £20 Highcross voucher, and even though there was no wooden spoon award, the winning team in the Beetle Drive won a model VW Beetle car (we all know which prize we’d rather have)!
City Slickers will be having a break over the summer but we will be planning a full calendar of events for the new season after then, so watch this space and have a great summer!

The fourth event of the City Slickers’ calendar took place in true Latin American style on Tuesday 13 April 2010 at Las Iguanas Restaurant on Belvoir Street in Leicester. The evening was kindly sponsored by Westerby Investment Management and Westerby Trustee Services.
The event was a fantastic opportunity to network whilst enjoying some delightful dishes from the heart of South America. On top of the tasty food, there were also plenty of exotic cocktails on hand - and fresh water for those whose dishes proved a little too spicy! Over sixty local professionals attended and everyone seemed to relish the opportunity to do what most love best….eat, drink and be merry!
The City Slickers Committee would like to thank the staff at Las Iguanas for all their hard work and also congratulate the lucky winner of the champagne draw, Villy Chauhan from Lloyds TSB.
Our next event is the hotly anticipated Ale Trail which will take place on 8 July 2010 at various watering holes in the City Centre. We do hope you can join us for another night of fun and frolics.

The renowned City Slickers’ Annual Quiz took place on 4 February 2010 at Fat Cats in Leicester and was kindly sponsored by Nutrafit.
The Quiz was made up of six rounds and the questions ranged from the colour of a Giraffe’s tongue to the name of the spaceship in Alien. It is fair to say that everyone learnt something from the evening, including that Jonathan Wheeler, the Managing Partner of the firm has an impressive/concerning knowledge of all music genres. It was this that may have led to his team, The Famous Five, going on to win the Quiz with an astounding 104 points. That is a new City Slickers’ record!
The winners took home £20 Highcross vouchers each which we are sure they will have no trouble spending. The losers, who shall remain nameless (you know who you are!), with a disappointing 71 points, were awarded wooden spoons. As our Quiz Mistress said, we do hope their culinary skills are better than their general knowledge. Better luck next year!
All attendees enjoyed a 2-course pub dinner and some complimentary drinks to celebrate or commiserate their achievements.
We would like to thank all the staff at Fat Cats for their hard efforts on the night as such a successful event could not have happened without them!
Our next event is a Mexican Night which will be held at Las Iguanas on Belvoir Street in April. Further details to follow.

The first event of the City Slickers’ 2009/10 season kicked off in classic style on 29th October at Hollywood Bowl in Leicester. Local professionals came together to enjoy two games of ten-pin bowling with a competitive twist! All in all, ten teams bowled their hearts out in an attempt to achieve the highest score. The performances ranged from impressive to mediocre -some teams scoring consecutive strikes and others ending up in the gutter!
The games were complemented with some well-earned refreshments and cheesy music to get everyone in the mood! The event received fantastic feedback and it seems some of the attendees took the game very seriously indeed!
The next event is the Pub Quiz on Thursday 4th February 2010. We look forward to seeing everyone there for some more fun to combat those post-Christmas blues.

The fourth, final and truly fantastic City Slickers event of the year was the Spearing Waite Ale Trail which saw 65 professionals visit 4 of the city’s finest bars in an effort to out play each other in games such as Pictionary, Jenga and a mini-quiz.
The attendees were split into 6 teams and then sent off to one of three gaming venues where they battled it out in true Ale Trail style. The winning team received two bottles of champagne which supplemented the complimentary drinks that had been flowing all night!
The evening concluded with a delicious buffet style dinner at Fat Cats on Belvoir Street where teams were able sit in the glorious sunshine, enjoy a bite to eat and a drink and reflect on their gaming tactics! A truly fabulous night was had by all and the City Slickers committee look forward to seeing everyone next season.
Details of the next events will be circulated soon – have a great summer!

Our third event of the season was a mouth watering curry night held at Mansah Restaurant on Dysart Way, Leicester.
Some of the sixty attendees were familiar with the huge venue, not as a curry house but rather an electrical retailer! The newly renovated Mansah really is an impressive venue with a seating capacity of up to 1500!
All attendees enjoyed a three-course buffet style meal which allowed us to sample some of the truly irresistible Indian delights. There was also a teppanyaki area in which guests could select foods which would then be cooked in front of them, to a spice level of their desire!
Richard Lewin of Mark J Rees was lucky enough to be drawn out of a hat for a free bottle of Champers. All in all a good night was had by all.
Our next event is the “City Slickers Ale Trail” which will take place on 2nd July 2009 at various watering holes across the city. Further details will be available soon.

In an effort to eliminate any New Year blues, our second event of the season was a Pub Quiz held on 22 January 2009 at Fat Cats in Leicester. The event was kindly sponsored by Springfields.
The Quiz was attended by over seventy professionals from in and around the Leicester area and fifteen teams were picked out randomly. The teams battled it out in a bid to win the esteemed title of ‘City Slickers Quiz Champions 2009’ and much fun was had on the way. The winners received John Lewis vouchers and the losers were awarded with a token wooden spoon for their achievements! The Quiz was followed up with traditional “Pub Grub” which was well deserved by all, regardless of victory or defeat.
Our next event is the very popular Curry Night, which will take place on 21 April 2009 at the Mansah Restaurant in Leicester.

Our first event of the season kicked off on Tuesday 4th November at the fabulous new Showcase Cinema De Lux in Leicester with a private showing of James Bond’s Quantum of Solace. The event was kindly sponsored by Berkeley Burke.
125 people joined in the fun which started with vodka martini’s, shaken and not stirred, in the exclusive Directors Lounge, followed by the movie and food in a private screen.
Our apologies to all those who were unable to attend due to the event being over subscribed. Our next event is a Quiz Night at Fat Cats on Thursday 22 January 2009. Further details will follow shortly.

Spearing Waite’s City Slickers is a networking group which is dedicated to bringing together like minded professionals in the City of Leicester, in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.
City Slickers’ 2007 – 2008 programme of events began with a lunch at Walkers Stadium on 14th September 2007. The event was sponsored by Group 20: The Supercar Club. The car park outside reception at the Walkers Stadium was graced with a Porsche Boxster S Sports Edition and a Pagani Zonda Roadster F which drew admiring glances not only from the attendees but also from the LCFC players.
Winter seemed to descend upon us very rapidly, and in order to bring a warm glow to all concerned, the next event was a Curry Evening, held at Mem Saab on 15th November 2007, which was sponsored by Allied Irish Bank. The evening was extremely well attended, and provided an opportunity to forge and cement some worthwhile networking relationships.
We met again on 27th February 2008, at Fat Cat Café Bar for a Quiz Night, sponsored by Berkeley Burke. Over 100 people attended the event. It was suggested that the winning team’s success had little to do with its general knowledge, but was as a result of its ability to build the best edifice from spaghetti and marshmallows! It would also seem that the quizmaster’s expectations were a little on the high side…
Owing to the success of two of last year’s events, both the Casino Night and the Treasure Hunt were repeated. 30th April 2008 saw us trying our hands at the tables at Gala Casino. Clearly, our fortunes lie in other directions…
The last event of the season was the Treasure Hunt on 3rd July 2008, sponsored by Rowleys. The weather was not too kind at the start, but after a short time, the hunters were able to lower their brollies, and enjoy the sunshine. Mobius provided the halfway watering hole, and for those who successfully decoded the clues, the final venue was Fat Cat Café Bar, who again, made everyone welcome.
City Slickers take a little break between the end of July to September, but will be back with a vengeance in the Autumn.

During the summer of 2006, a group of fee earners at Spearing Waite decided to incorporate a networking group, with the intention of bringing together like minded individuals to build up contacts in an informal way, and to have some fun at the same time. City Slickers was born and the idea has proved to be popular.
Below are some of the events that have taken place:
The year wound up with a Treasure Hunt, through the streets of Leicester city centre, on 7th June 2007. Fortunately, the weather was kind, and most parties managed to finish the Hunt without getting too wet. In any event, the half way stop necessitated a visit to the Turkey Café, for liquid sustenance. The final venue, for those who deciphered the clues, was The Rutland and Derby, with jugs of Pimms and a buffet.
A ceilidh was held at Molly O’Gradys on 15th March 2007 to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

Chinese New Year celebrations took place at Terasana, on 22nd February 2007. The darkest month was brightened by lanterns and yet again, more alcohol and delicious food offerings.

Gala Casino saw the next event on 15th November 2006. The evening kicked off with champagne and a buffet. Gala Casino took the trouble to demonstrate the principles of Roulette and Black Jack. Some, it would seem, deemed it necessary to test out the recommendations and could still be seen practising into the wee small hours….

The first event was a lunch at Alloro Italian Restaurant, Millstone Lane, on 29th September 2006. It was attended by in excess of 80 people. Alloro provided such a wonderful lunch that it seemed a shame to have to return to work in the afternoon. Spurred on by the success of the first event, City Slickers developed its events programme for the year.
