Family Law

Relationship breakdown, for whatever reason, is always an emotional time in your life. Often you may feel the person you have lived with for many years is now a complete stranger. It becomes even more difficult to handle where there are children involved. We understand and offer a friendly and sympathetic ear and will guide and advise you through what seems like an intimidating process to achieve the best possible outcome for you.

To preserve future relationships especially where there are children involved, we are known for finding conciliatory and constructive solutions whilst, where necessary, also being effective with litigation.

We are finding it more common for people to consider during the relationship what may occur in the event of a separation and are able to advise on the best way to protect assets owned prior to the breakdown of the relationship and in particular discuss Cohabitation Agreements and Pre/Post nuptial Agreements.

We specialise in representing high net worth individuals with Business Assets, Trusts, Pensions, Assets abroad etc and can also draw upon the knowledge and expertise of our colleagues to assist with other issues which may arise such as an ex partner being involved in the business, Inheritance issues, Creation of Trusts, Tax planning, Commercial and Corporate issues, Conveyancing etc.

We also offer specific alternatives to the use of courts through Collaborative Law. Parties agree to work together with their Lawyers to resolve issues arising from the separation by agreeing in writing to reach a settlement without court involvement. The process involves Collaborative lawyers using their skills in client representation, negotiation, and problem solving to help their clients shape a fair agreement through ‘four way’ meetings, with the clients remaining control of the process but the lawyers present throughout for legal advice and guidance.

The team includes Jonathan Foster and Swati Somaiya who have over thirty years experience in Family Law between them. Both are trained Collaborative Lawyers and over the years, have developed experience in advising and assisting clients in general aspects of matrimonial and family issues including:

  • Divorce/Civil Partnership
  • Cohabitation breakdown
  • Children matters such as who the children should live with and how often they should see the absent parent
  • Property and financial disputes
  • Domestic Violence
  • Pre/Post Nuptial Agreements and Cohabitation Agreements

Our highly experienced family team offer a supportive, efficient and friendly service and strive to obtain the best possible outcome for you.

Both Jonathan and Swati are members of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) and the Law Society Family Panel.
